AT&T Knows the future?

I was on twitter today and noticed that At&t was a trending topic, AGAIN. While trying to get to the bottom of the twitter conversation this time, I came across a interesting video. During a campaign in 1993, At&t produced a series of “You Will” ads that talked about the future, and all of the “futuristic things” we would be doing. I can imagine myself watching this commercial in 1993 (at the ripe old age of 5) and thinking that things like, webcams, wireless internet, and GPS’s were fantasy sci-fi. Now I’m disappointed if my iPhone can’t tell me where exactly the traffic accident is that the DJ is talking about on my satellite radio!

They did a great job at looking at the way technology was progressing at the time, but it looks like they missed the whole cellphone thing completely.

When was the last time YOU used a pay-phone?

Dial “down the center much?”

1800-CALL-ATT? (remember that? haha)

Hey world, I’m here. Lets GO!

September 23, 2009

Hello world and welcome to my blog. This is not my first blog, but this is my first post on this particular site, so I’ll introduce myself.

My name is Mark Clennon Jr. I’m a senior at the University of South Florida studying public relations. I’m actually interested in almost everything you could imagine, my girlfriend calls me a walking encyclopedia and even a girl today called me the man (lol).

My many interests are also the reason that I have changed my major so much. I started as a pre-med major, then eventually found my way to criminology, then communications, then telecommunications and now I’m sure that I have found my home in public relations. I have also have interests in music, film and collegiate sports.

In case you were wondering, I work as a student manager for USF Dining Services and as a graphic designer in the USF Homecoming Office.

I pride myself on giving back to the community, especially the black community. Even as a young black male, I have been given opportunities that many others have not, and I am always looking forward to advancing the net generation of young, black leaders; I know I benefit from it as well.

I also am the president of the Theta Gamma chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, incorporated. I was initiated in fall 2007 and the following semester, I used my leadership skills to become the vice president and soon the president of my fraternity as the youngest member in my chapter.

As president, I utilize the skills that I learned in class to develop a combination of public relations, advertising, and production skills. For example, I created a YouTube account, a blog, Facebook fan page and an imeem account for our fraternity to give the campus more ways to get to know the brothers of our chapter in a more personal way. As suggested by the book, The New Rules of Marketing and PR, Instead of advertising to our student body I opened the lines of communication and thus, built relationships with the student body online. As of today, our YouTube and blog, we have a total of 166,762 impressions and the Theta Gamma chapter is one of the most recognizable chapters in undergrad black Greek society.

I try and surround myself around positive people and I have to shout out two of my friends that have known since 7th grade and have had the most influence in my young life.

The first is Dan DiPiazza, a fast rising actor that is making a name for himself in central Florida. He’s only been acting for six months and has already scored two lead roles. I’ll blog much more about him in the near future. The second is Chris Alexander, a premier engineering student that won 1st place oral presentation at the Florida Georgia Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Engineering Expo. He’s like a brother to me and he hasn’t changed one bit since I met him in 7th grade.

My girlfriend, Jasmine Fowlkes is also bound to be successful, right now she is the Director of Marketing and Communications for USF Student Government and outshines me in every category of life on a regular basis. Find her here!

Okay I’m stopping here; this post is way longer than I planned haha.
